Dr. Olga Padilla-Zakour is a Professor in the Food Science Department at Cornell University and Director of the Cornell Food Venture Center. Olga’s research program focuses on applied research to add value and safety to agricultural commodities with an emphasis on small-scale processing. Her extension responsibilities include directing a premier program to support food entrepreneurship in the Northeast by providing comprehensive assistance to start-up and established food ventures. Olga is a recognized Process Authority to issue schedule process documentation to comply with federal and state regulatory requirements for new food products. In July 2013, Olga was awarded the Elizabeth Fleming Stier Award, which honors “the pursuit of humanitarian ideals and unselfish dedication that have resulted in significant contributions to the well-being of the food industry, academia, students, or the general public,” at the Annual Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Meeting and Food Expo, and was named IFT Fellow in 2014 - a unique professional distinction given to individuals with outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience for their contributions to the food science and technology field. She received her undergraduate degree in Food Technology from the University of Costa Rica and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Food Science from Cornell University. As Managing Director, Olga’s oversight provides guidance helping the IFS@CU achieve its goals and fulfill its mission.
